Deconstructing the Mask: Character Development for Dramatic Storytelling

At the core of every great film are thoughtful, well-crafted, and dimensional characters that inhabit the world of the story and take the audience to experiences - old, new, and unimaginable. Over 4 weeks, participants will learn how to craft characters that propel stories. Through the examples of movies we know and love, participants will start thinking about characters instead of plot, and will learn the basics of screenwriting language, screenplay format, and scene structure. In addition, examples will be used to understand the art of dialogue. At the end of the workshop, the relationship between characters and plot will be appreciated and participants will do a first draft or second draft of their short film screenplay.
